To connect the law with the numbers, the numbers with the business, and the business with practical implementation, helping organisations achieve compliance, reduce risk and build sustainable solutions.
About ACME Group
A tax practice organised around dates.
We started in Dubai in 2014, before corporate tax existed here. What has not changed since is the thing the whole firm is built to prevent: a client finding out about an obligation after the window has closed.
Dubai office
From the lead tax partner
Most penalties we see were never a disagreement about tax. They were a date nobody owned.
When VAT arrived in 2018 we watched capable, well-run businesses get caught out, not by complexity, but by a calendar nobody was keeping. Corporate tax repeated it in 2023 at a larger scale. So we built the practice around the calendar first and the technical work second, which is an unusual way round for an accounting firm.
2014 to today
Our history is the rulebook's history.
A tax practice in this market has no story separate from the legislation it answers to. Every desk we opened was a response to something that arrived on the statute book, usually with a deadline attached.
Licensed in Dubai
Four people, one room in Al Barsha, doing bookkeeping for SMEs. There was no tax to advise on yet.
VAT introduced at 5%
The UAE's first broad-based tax. Registration thresholds, quarterly returns and a filing calendar arrived at once for businesses that had never filed anything.
VAT desk opened
Ninety registrations in the first quarter, most of them businesses that had left it late. That year taught us the thing the firm is now built around.
Economic Substance Regulations
An annual obligation with no invoice attached: the kind of filing that gets missed precisely because nobody bills for it.
Compliance desk formed
A separate team for ESR, UBO and AML, on the view that obligations nobody sends you a bill for need someone whose job is to watch for them.
Dispute practice formed
A dedicated team for FTA audits, reconsideration requests and objections: the work that begins where advisory ends.
Corporate tax takes effect
9% above AED 375,000, for financial years starting on or after 1 June 2023. The largest single change to how business is done here since the free zones.
Registered as an FTA tax agency
Which means a named agent signs for our clients before the authority, and represents them in an audit.
First returns fall due
Nine months after each financial year end: a rolling deadline rather than a national date, which is why so many businesses got it wrong.
2,400th return filed
AED 300M+ in tax exposures and disputes resolved, from first audit contact through to litigation.
